Function
Effective Pressure Surge Mitigation
PROCESS
⸺ Tank Design
The system consists of a specially designed tank with two compartments - one filled with compressed air and the other with water.
⸺ Normal Operation
Under normal conditions, the compressed air is in the upper compartment, while the water level is maintained in the lower compartment.
⸺ Pressure Surge Event
When a sudden flow change occurs, the pressure surge or water hammer travels through the piping system and reaches the surge protection tank.
⸺ Air Compression and Water Displacement
The compressed air in the upper compartment further compresses, absorbing excess pressure and cushioning the shockwave. Simultaneously, the water in the lower compartment is displaced upward, compressing air.
⸺ Surge Dissipation
The compressed air gradually releases the stored energy, dissipating the pressure surge over time. The water level in the lower compartment returns to its original position once the pressure stabilizes.
